Estela Mora Barba Wins First Prize in Telematics and Third Prize in Electronics at the XIX COITT Awards
I am delighted to share that Estela Mora Barba, my former undergraduate student, current master’s student, and a valued member of GRyS research group working on the NexTArc European research project, has received double recognition from the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Técnicos de Telecomunicación (COITT) in its XIX edition of the Premios Futuro de las Telecomunicaciones.
Estela has been awarded First Prize in Telematics Engineering and Third Prize in Electronic Systems Engineering for her outstanding undergraduate theses, a remarkable achievement that highlights her dedication and talent. This is the second time the association has awarded two prizes to the same student in the same year, following a similar achievement last year by César García Moreno, also from ETSIST.
The awarded projects address key challenges in modern agriculture:
-
Smart management system for unmanned autonomous vehicles in precision agriculture on edge (First Prize - Telematics Engineering): This project focused on designing and implementing an intelligent fleet management system based on an edge architecture for UAVs in precision agriculture. The solution enhances the autonomy, efficiency, and sustainability of automated agricultural operations using advanced software technologies, distributed architecture, and microservices.
-
Device for generating prescription maps using embedded AI in precision agriculture (Third Prize - Electronic Systems Engineering): This project involved designing an autonomous hardware system based on a UAV capable of capturing agricultural images, processing them locally with AI models, and generating real-time prescription maps without relying on external infrastructure. The solution leverages edge computing, a modular service-oriented architecture, and open-source technologies to improve agricultural efficiency and sustainability.
The award ceremony will take place on April 24, 2026, at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid - Moncloa.
My heartfelt congratulations to Estela for this well-deserved recognition.
